Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I change my archery strings and cables?
That depends on how often you shoot! In general, we recommend that frequent shooters replace their string and cables at least every two years. Typically, target bows need to be refreshed more often than hunting bows because they tend to be used more frequently.
First and foremost, you should always replace your bow string and cables if you notice signs of damage or if your bow’s performance is suffering. Other factors that influence the lifespan of your string and cables include how you store and maintain your bow and your shooting style and environment.

How do I identify a damaged bow string?
Start with a visual inspection. Look for anything unusual, such as nicks, cuts, or abrasions. Light fuzzing isn’t anything to worry about, but severe fuzzing is a sign that it’s time to replace your bow string and cable set.
Next, slide your finger along the string to check for sections that are flat, squashed, or irregular in any way. The string and cables should be uniformly round with no inconsistencies. Last, listen for unusual sounds, such as snapping, popping, or clicking.

Can I change my own strings and cables?
Yes, it’s possible to do the job yourself. However, if you’re not confident in your abilities, it’s best to have a professional handle it. If you want to perform your own maintenance, we highly recommend investing in a bow press. It compresses the bow’s limbs and keeps the bow secured in place while you replace your bow string and cables and perform other tasks.
